YOUR Financial Future - Pre-Law Advising Services
PLAS has put together a two-part series on financing law school. Our first program in the series is a webinar set for next Monday, March 4, 5pm, entitled “Financing Law School: Understanding Debt and Student Loans” featuring financial aid and student loan guru Heather Jarvis.
Heather Jarvis is a nationally recognized expert and speaker on the complexities of financial aid and student loans. During this webinar, she will provide a detailed overview of student loan options at the law school level, and share information about recent changes to loan repayment options, including loan forgiveness programs. This is a must-see for students entering law school. Find out more about Heather and her excellent resources at http://askheatherjarvis.com/. This event is FREE and exclusively for UIUC students. Note — PARTICIPATION IS LIMITED and participants must register in advance. To register, click on this link to the PLAS event calendar: http://illinois.edu/calendar/list/2508. Once there, select the March 4 event and then select register and follow the instructions which will ultimately direct you to Ms. Jarvis’s registration system. This is a must see, not to be missed opportunity, so register today!!!!
Do you already follow our blog? http://publish.illinois.edu/prelawadvising/ is where to look for weekly posts on events relevant to pre-law students and topics that will keep you current and at the top of the class in your pre-law journey. Because our blog is through the university’s word press system – you can’t sign up to have blog posts directly emailed to you – and we don’t want to continually bog down your inbox doing that ourselves! So the easiest way to follow our blog is to use Google Reader and search for the Pre-Law Advising Services Blog, where you can then subscribe to our blog (and say . . . the blogs of your top ten law schools . . .) and check in daily/weekly to see what is going on.
You can also follow us through our facebook group http://www.facebook.com/#!/groups/38102688195/ or our Twitter Account: https://twitter.com/UIUCPreLaw. These accounts will keep you updated on our events, but don’t have all the resources of our blog, so make that your priority for all things pre-law.
Register today for this event – and learn everything you can to keep law-school debt from dictating your future possibilities!

Voice your opinions about top employers
Dear Student,
University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign has received an exclusive invitation for its students to participate in a study about the career goals, expectations and ideal employers of top college students. Your response, while anonymous, will assist over 1,200 employers who are actively recruiting or who are interested in recruiting students for internships and full time employment on our campus.

Companies will only see the collective results, and your participation/identity will be kept confidential.
In appreciation for your time you will receive two free WetFeet Insider Guides of your choice (over 50 titles to choose from), access to a library of career webinars and $25 off your next flight among other incentives.
All respondents are also entered into the Universum 2013 Sweepstakes for a chance to win a $1,500 Scholarship.

Does Law School Make Sense?
Featuring Dean Michael Burns from DePaul University College of Law. Monday,
Feb. 18 at 5:00 in Lincoln Hall 1027
Recent changes to the legal market
have resulted in much media coverage about the availability of legal jobs, the
investment of law school, and the future of legal practice. In this context,
does law school make sense? Michael Burns, Dean of Admissions & Student
Administration at DePaul University College of Law, will examine this complex
topic. Dean Burns has a wealth of experience in law school admissions and is a
popular and candid speaker. He will address the impact of some of the recent
changes on legal education and help students decide whether law school is a
good investment on an individual level. In addition, this is a great
opportunity for students to ask an expert questions about law school admissions
generally or about DePaul Law specifically! Learn more about Dean Burns at http://www.law.depaul.edu/faculty_staff/m_burns.asp
